CONTEST

The Fast of the Apostles

May 31st is the beginning of the Saints Peter and Paul Fast, a moveable fast that precedes the celebration of the Feast of these Holy Apostles.  This year the fast will last 29 days and conclude with Divine Liturgy on Tuesday, June 29th.   The Fast is moveable because it is calculated from the date of Pascha; it always begins on the Monday after the Sunday of All Saints and ends on June 29.

So why do we fast for the Apostles?

I challenge you all to find out why and send us an email with your answers to koimisis@yahoo.com

The first correct answer will receive a PRIZE. The winner will be announced next month.

The winner of this months contest is Helen Milonas. Helen sent in the first correct response.

Congratulations Helen, please see Fr. Chrysostomos after church on Sunday to collect your prize.

If you are still wondering what the correct answer is keep reading.

Christ said that we are to go out into the world and “baptize all nations in the name of the Father and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” In this way, He gave the responsibility of being missionaries to the world, to His disciples and to each and every one of us as well.

Christ also taught us that before we begin any task we should prepare with prayer and fasting.

So, just as the disciples prepared to begin their ministry with prayer and fasting, we commemorate their works, and we too prepare ourselves to go out into the world in the same way.
